A new Polish cultivar bearing white flowers with blue-violet margins. Blooms abundantly especially in well-lit spots.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE: Medium-sized single flowers, 9-10 cm across, consist of 6 sepals. Sepals are creamy white with violet-blue margins. Stamens consist of yellow anthers on creamy white filaments. Blooms from the beginning of June till the beginning of August. Leaves are large, green, matte, some of them lobed.
HOW IT GROWS: The vine climbs by means of leaf petioles. Moderate growth rate, reaching 250 cm height.
WHERE TO PLANT: The cultivar is best suited to sunny locations. Thrives in fertile, permeable soils, but will grow also in moderate soil if fertilized. The soil pH should range from neutral to slightly acidic. Hardy (zone 4-9).
HOW TO PLANT AND GROW: Place the plant in a pit (60 x 60 x 60 cm) with fertile soil and a 10 cm draining layer at the bottom, 5-10 cm deeper than it grew in the container (planting tutorial). Requires hard pruning. At the turn of February and March, it is enough to remove the dead shoots, and prune the live ones: in the first year 30 cm from the ground, above the strong buds, and in the following years at the height of 40-50 cm (pruning tutorial). In mid-April it should be supplemented with a slow-release fertilizer (e.g. Osmocote 5˗6M). Water during the season.
HOW TO APPLY: Suitable for growing by free-standing as well as wall supports and for covering pergolas, arbours and fences.
ORIGIN: Raised by Szczepan Marczyński, Poland. Available from 2023 r. More about our cultivars…
