A plant of beautiful, large, white-green variegated leaves and creamy white flowers gathered in corymbs. Recommended for shaded or semi-shaded sites, along walls and under trees, suitable also as a ground cover. Perfect for bringing light to darker areas of the garden.
WHAT IT LOOKS LIKE: Leaves highly decorative, 12-18 cm long, obtuse, serrate, of white-green variegation. Flowers small, creamy white, delicately honey-scented, gathered in large, tight flattened corymbs, 25 cm across. Their most attractive feature are large (3-5 cm), white sepals of sterile flowers that form a ring around the inflorescence. As the bloom nears the end, the sepals obtain a greenish hue. Bloom from the end of June till July, starting in the 2nd- 3rd year after planting. Fruit in the shape of inconspicuous, dry, ribbed pods of no ornamental value.
HOW IT GROWS: A climber supporting itself with aerial rootlets. Slow-growing of maximum height 6 m (0.5 per year).
WHERE TO PLANT: Prefers shaded and semi-shaded sites. Requires moderately moist soil, humus-rich and acidic. Drought intolerant. Sufficiently frost hardy (zone 5B–8).
HOW TO PLANT AND MAINTAIN: Before planting immerse the plant container in water for 10-30 min. Place the root ball in a 40 x 40 x 40 cm hole with a 10 cm layer of well-rotten manure or compost, 0.5-1 cm deeper than it was before. Fill the hole with fertile soil. The plant should be located at least 30 cm from walls or other plants. Does not require pruning but withstands the correction pruning.
HOW TO APPLY: Recommended for shaded or semi-shaded sites, along walls and under trees, suitable also as a ground cover. Perfect for bringing light to darker areas of the garden.
